Welcome to GospelSingersofAmerica.com
Gospel Singing in the deep South has for many generations played a great part in the southern way of life and the old fashioned Singing School has trained both young and old to sing and play Gospel Songs. The all-day singing and dinner on the grond was often the beginning of revivals throughout the South and many times there would be singing schools during the day and revival meeting at night. Many of our leading denominations began their growth through this method and Gospel singing deserves much credit for the spiritual enrichmentof the lives of bygone days.Time brought many changes in our way of life and many places no longer had their singing schools, all-day singings and even the old time revivals had begun to disappear. Realizing that something had to be done soon or a great tradition of ours would soon come to an end, Videt Polk, noted singer and teacher, called a meeting of interested persons to band together and organize Gospel Singers of America in order to build a school of Gospel music and to teach and promote this cause.Today, after 50 years, Gospel Singers of America is still going strong. Each summer for 3 weeks, over 100 students come from all over the country to learn Gospel Music. Gospel Singers of America offers classes for all ages, including theory, song directing, private lessons such as piano and voice, quartet training, and even teacher training.
